Fall Has Arrived!


Finally, it looks like our long, hot summer is drawing to an end. With high temperatures no longer breaking 100º and much cooler evenings, we are also welcoming a return of many of our signature events to the desert. If you’re looking for a great place to get away, whether for a weekend or the entire winter, now’s the time to make those travel plans for the Palm Springs area. 






BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament - October 4-17


The BNP Paribas, originally scheduled for March of this year, will now take place during October. The tournament is the largest combined WTA and ATP tournament outside of the four Grand Slams and should be well-attended after the cancellation of the prior two events. Please note that all attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination for admission into the tennis gardens.

Arthur Lyon’s Film Noir Festival - October 21-24


The film festivals are returning to the desert, and the annual Film Noir Festival is back at the Palm Springs Cultural Center this year. Since 2000 this popular film festival has celebrated the best of the classic and the obscure in the world of black and white “B” movies. The festival opens with Farewell My Lovely starring Robert Mitchum as private detective Phillip Marlowe.

Coachella Vally Improve & Comedy Festival - October 23-24


With the last year and a half, we’ve all been through, who couldn’t use a good laugh? Here’s your chance to see up-and-coming stand-up comics and improvisational comics from across the U.S., as well as showcase sets by Mary Gallagher (The Late Show, Laugh After Dark) and Steve Mittleman (The Tonight Show, Comedy Central). And it’s a great opportunity for newcomers to hone their skills in one of the many workshops being held during the festival.

Joshua Tree Music Festival - The first music festival of the season returns, and it's family-friendly. You'll find a diverse schedule of eclectic performers performing under the big blue skies in the beautiful Joshua Tree. And you really should check out the cozy, retro air-conditioned camper trailers that are available for rent.

Modernism Week Fall Preview - Oct 14-17


The first big modernism event of the year kicks on this month in Palm Springs, often called the “mecca of modern architecture". This year’s celebration includes over 50 events, including tours of popular mid-century modern homes, educational events, and cocktail parties. You’ll also enjoy the 7th annual Palm Springs Modernism Show and Sale featuring 45 premier decorative and fine arts dealing presenting vintage-inspired designs.

Paint El Paseo Pink - October 9


After a hiatus last year due to COVID, the 15th annual Paint El Paseo Pink event returns to Palm Desert. Starting at 8 a.m. on Oct 9, this 2-mile walk serves to raise breast cancer awareness and funds raised by the participating teams benefit the Desert Cancer Foundation.  Come out and support this event, and if you’d like to participate, click the link below for more information.

Hwy 62 Open Studio Art Tours - October 9-1, 16-17, 23-24


See artwork as never before during this expansive art tour over three weekends in October. You’ll experience 165 artists showing their work in their own studios in the Joshua Tree area. Information on each artist, along with the location of each studio, is available at the link below. So get out and enjoy the beauty of the Joshua Tree area while supporting our local artists.

Palm Springs VillageFest - Every Thursday


VillageFest is back, and with cooler weather on the way, it’s the perfect way to enjoy an evening outdoors.  Palm Canyon Drive is closed to vehicles from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each Thursday for this popular street fair. You’ll enjoy the diversity of vendors, including artists, entertainers, and a wide variety of food.

A Conversation on Art, Love, and Life - October 22

If you follow the local art scene, you’re familiar with the art of Karen and Tony Barone. Their large-scale sculptures are featured in several locations through the Coachella Valley, and they are fixtures on the local art scene. This event, featuring a special installation of the artists’ work and cocktail reception with an artists interview, will benefit the Tools for Tomorrow’s local literacy program.

Vicky's of Santa Fe - Now fully opened, Vicky’s of Santa Fe offers a full menu of live shows every night except for Monday. If you enjoy jazz, blues, and a little bit of country, you’ll find something to enjoy. Two of my favorites are Slim Man Band each Tuesday from 6-9:30 pm and Rose Mallett singing blues and jazz each Saturday from 4:30-6:30 pm.

Artist's Council at The Galen


One of the area's premier art galleries re-opens this month! In its new home at The Galen Palm Desert, the Artist's Council's mission is to promote the arts and support the local arts community through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, social gatherings, and more. You won't want to miss their inaugural exhibition – NEXUS – at their grand opening on October 15 featuring live performances in the gardens and catering by Lulu's California Bistro.

McCallum Theatre - The McCallum Theatre has a full slate of shows scheduled for this coming season. In December, the theater re-opens with Broadway show Hairspray, followed by Barry Manilow's annual Give of Love Christmas special.
