With the Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach Music Festivals behind us, you'll still find a variety of interesting activities to keep you busy during the month of May here in the Palm Springs area. You'll find two music festivals, two film festivals, great art exhibitions, and plenty of live music and theater to enjoy. It's a great time to visit and enjoy the Coachella Valley when it's a bit more relaxed once most of our winter visitors have returned home.

Joshua Tree Music Festival - May 12-15

The Joshua Tree Music Festival returns with live music experiences and workshops designed to uplift and inspire. Focused on music by lesser-known indie musicians, this biannual event features a variety of music including dance, world, electro-funk & groove. You'll enjoy "movement medicine" in the mornings and musical acts in the afternoon and evening. And don't forget to check out their Cozy Camper Trailers!

The festival kicks off on May 11 with a special presentation of Victor/Victor, a "mature cabaret" performance, and the opening night film on May 12 is the 1949 classic They Live By Night, which will be introduced by film critic and historian Leonard Maltin.

Pioneertown International Film Festival - May 27-29

This film festival, dedicated to the western genre of filmmaking, makes its debut this month after an initial delay due to the pandemic. The festival is deliberately smaller and more intimate than the other film festivals, and its partnership with The Autry Museum of the American West brings authentic history to the proceedings. There will be 25 films, and two programs of film shorts screened in two screening rooms in Pioneertown, the location of many western film shoots.

The annual Memorial Day Flower Drop returns to the Palm Springs Air Museum this month, with a brief memorial service dedicated to fallen soldiers accompanied by a fly-by and flower drop of over 3,000 red and white carnations. It's a unique experience and a wonderful way to pay tribute to those who have given their lives for our freedoms.
