Celebrate The Holidays in Palm Springs!


It’s that time of year! This month the Palm Springs area lights up with some great activities for family members of all ages! You’ll enjoy a variety of events taking place in the area, including a night-time Christmas parade, festivities at a local zoo, a triathlon, some excellent holiday theater, and big-name musical acts.


And while you’re here, don’t forget to check out the many open houses over the holidays. If you’re considering buying a home, December can be the perfect time to buy as many potential buyers will be busily engaged in the holiday festivities, so you just might be competing with fewer buyers for the ideal home!




Festival of Lights Parade, Dec 7


The Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade kicked off in the early 1990s and has been held every year since on the first Saturday in December. Over the past 27 years, the parade has featured a host of marching bands, local performers, and the Budweiser Clydesdales, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Snoopy and the Gang — and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus! Everyone enjoys the brightly decorated floats, and it’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit!

Wildlights, Nov 27 - Dec 28


If you haven’t seen The Living Desert, all lit up for Christmas; you won’t want to miss this year’s event! Over a million holiday lights turn the zoo into a winter wonderland, with live music, animal encounters, carousel rides, and the zoo’s G-scale model trains all decked out for the holidays. Food and beverages are available for purchase as well.

Year-End Ironman Finale, Dec 8


If you’re worried about overeating during the holidays, participating in this event that will take that worry away! The grand finale of the North American circuit takes place at IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells – La Quinta. This second-year race includes 3,000 participants, over 5,000 spectators, and 1,000 volunteers supporting the event.


A one-loop swim takes place in Lake Cahuilla, followed by a fast, flat bike course that travels through the Thermal raceway, and ends at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens. The event concludes with a run that loops through the Indian Wells Golf Resort, where some of the best spectator viewings will take place.

Indio International Tamale Festival, Dec 7 - 8


It’s your chance to attend an event ranked in the top 10 All-American Food Festivals in the nation by the Food Network. The Indio International Tamale Festival is a special occasion that kicks off the holiday season. More than 300 vendors will be featured, plus a tamale eating contest, five stages of live entertainment, and wine and beer gardens. Attendees will be able to sample a wide variety of tamales, from traditional recipes to vegan and vegetarian options. Best of all ... admission is FREE.

Walk of the Inns, Dec 12


This unique one-day event provides the opportunity to experience many of the unique boutique inns located near the Palm Springs Tennis Club. Start your free, self-guided tour at the Palm Springs Art Museum, where you can drop off unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots and Well in the Desert, and then grab your map and flashlight. The tour takes you past Palm Springs’ 100-year-old historic inns and boutique hotels, as well as mid-century and historical architecture. This event is free and runs from 5-8 PM.

Christmas With The Crawfords, Now - Dec 22


Christmas can be a little crazed, so why not take in a holiday play about Joan Crawford’s attempts to keep the Christmas spirit of Katherine Hepburn, Judy Garland & other stars from spoiling her big audition.

The King and I, Now - Dec 22


If you haven’t seen the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic that won Tony awards in 1952, 1996, and 2015, now’s your chance. The Palm Canyon Theater presents this classic love story about the King and the young English widow who has arrived to tutor his many children and wives.

Mary Poppins - Dec 6 - 22


Indio’s Desert Theatreworks’ production of this classic tale about an umbrella-toting nanny is sure to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! It’s fun for the entire family and a perfect way to celebrate the magic of the holidays.

Listings Down! Sales Down! Prices Up!


Our most recent year-over-year, October 2019 vs. October 2018 data shows a slight (-3.9%) drop in the number of homes sold last month in the area. The luxury market continues to perform well, with the number of homes sold up (+60.7%) in the $1M price bracket.  Sales in the under $500K price range remained essential flat last month while the $500,000 - $999,999 price range experienced a (+3.0%) increase in the number of homes sold.



Average selling prices were up a healthy (+7.2%) in the under $500K price range, a trend that has continued every month so far this year in this price range. Homes priced $500,000 - $999,999 sold for an average of (+1.3%) more this month compared to last year, while homes priced $1M+ experienced a (-5.9%) drop in average selling prices. Keep in mind that the average selling prices of the luxury home category can fluctuate significantly - more so than the other price categories - depending on the mix of homes sold.
